As the founder and CEO of Toozi Sleepwear, I often get asked about the inspiration behind our brand and the journey it took to bring our collections to life. Today, I’m excited to share the behind-the-scenes story of how Toozi came to be, highlighting my recent trip overseas, where the magic truly began.
Finding Inspiration
The idea for Toozi Sleepwear sparked from a desire to create a line of sleepwear that reflects the balance of comfort, style, and quality. We wanted something that makes you feel beautiful and relaxed at home. After countless nights spent wearing ill-fitting sleepwear that left me feeling less than my best, I knew it was time for a change. I envisioned a collection that would not only cater to comfort but also offer a touch of style.
A Trip to Shenzhen
Last fall, my husband, Joe, and I embarked on a transformative journey to Shenzhen, China. While Joe has been visiting Dan and the factory for years, this was my very first trip! Let me take a moment to share a bit of our backstory—Joe and Dan are long-time friends and business partners. In fact, Dan was a groomsman at our wedding, and his beautiful daughters, Rachel and Anna, are our cherished goddaughters. That adorable duo is actually the inspiration behind the name “Toozi”!
Dan and his wife, Jill, have dedicated years to the fashion and apparel business, and together they have built our beautiful factory, StyleWorks, where our vision for Toozi Sleepwear truly comes to life.
The bustling city of Shenzhen is renowned for its innovation and textile manufacturing, making it the ideal destination to explore materials and production processes for our sleepwear. During my visit, I had the incredible opportunity to work closely with our StyleWorks team—people who are more than just colleagues; they are family. Their expertise in textile production and their commitment to ethical practices perfectly aligned with my desire for Toozi Sleepwear to prioritize quality and sustainability. I felt a deep sense of connection as we collaborated and brainstormed together, laying the foundation for what Toozi represents.
Selecting Fabrics, Colors, and Styles
One of my favorite aspects of the trip was diving into the fabric and style selection process. I spent hours in the factory exploring materials like soft bamboo, textured ribbed fabrics, and a luxe silky fabric that added an elegant touch. I was also drawn to endless color options—deep midnight blues, soft blush pinks, and classic whites—ensuring they were calming yet appealing.
In addition to fabrics, selecting the right styles was crucial. I carefully considered everything from strap types to strings and buttons, ensuring each design was both flattering and comfortable.
Working alongside our dedicated team in Shenzhen, I witnessed the immense passion they pour into their craft. Their craftsmanship plays a vital role in shaping the Toozi brand and our vision.
Collaboration and Creation
Throughout my stay, collaboration was at the forefront of our efforts. I met with the designers, pattern makers, seamstresses, graphic designers, and quality assurance experts to ensure that every detail of our sleepwear aligned with our mission. We evaluated prototypes, made adjustments, and celebrated the small victories that ultimately lead to the formation of a cohesive collection.
One particularly memorable moment was when we gathered the entire team for a fitting session. Seeing our designs come to life filled me with joy and reaffirmed why we set out to create Toozi Sleepwear. It was a reminder that at the heart of our brand is a commitment to inclusivity and comfort for everyone.
Final Thoughts
Looking back, my trip to Shenzhen was instrumental in the creation of Toozi Sleepwear. It allowed me to build meaningful relationships with our team, engage directly in the manufacturing process, and gain confidence in the quality of our products. I was captivated by the beautiful culture surrounding me; the passion and pride that everyone has for their work is truly inspiring. Their graciousness and respect in every interaction left a lasting impression on me.
I returned home not only with a wealth of knowledge but also with a renewed passion for providing our customers with sleepwear that elevates their nighttime routine.
